General:
Annual herb from a taproot; stems 15-80 cm tall, simple to freely branched, usually stiff-hairy below, glabrous above.
Leaves:
Basal leaves several, shed early, oblanceolate, 1.5-5 (7) cm long, toothed to shallowly lobed, the lobes pointing backwards, short-stalked; lower stem leaves similar to basal; middle to upper stem leaves smaller, oblong to narrowly lanceolate, unstalked, with ear-like lobes at the bases, entire to toothed.
Flowers:
Inflorescence of 4-7 mm long, slender (almost threadlike), recurved stalks; petals white or sometimes purplish-tinged, narrow, about 1 mm long; sepals often purplish, white-margined, about length of petals.
Fruits:
Silicles, elliptic to round, 5-8 mm long, glabrous to stiff-hairy or somewhat woolly-hairy, wing entire, wavy-margined or round-toothed, radiately nerved; beaks 0.5-1.5 mm long, often exserted.

Habitat / Range

Mesic to dry disturbed areas and waste places in the lowland zone; locally infrequent in SW BC, known only from SE Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands; S to ID and CA.
